I can see why Maher kept the Witnesses out. He was making more of a political point, and since Witnesses are completely isolated from this process, it makes no sense to harp on them. At least with the Mormons and evangelicals, he could point to several prominent politicians who subscribe to those beliefs. Unless he wanted to make fun of Prince, he had no reason to bring it up.

Just think, this has only begun. This place is going to look like a pie fight come November.

Zimmerman is being charged. That's only state though. Justice Dept. is also investigating civil rights charges. If anything, I hope this halts the growing specter of violence and calms the situation down a bit now while letting the legal system do its thing.

Rev Wright. off the hook...wow.

it's hard to imagine that leader of the free world; mr. obama sat and listened to this lunatics teachings for 20 years.

Agreed. I recently read a book about Joseph Smith and I certainly don't see too many things about it to recommend Mormonism to the everyday person. Being a born-in to the JW religion myself, I understand that both Romneys were born-ins themselves and for them to make a break with that religion, it would mean dumping all contacts, friends and family alike and starting anew. I perfectly understand the reasoning behind some members on this forum who obviously do not feel it is the truth, yet continue to attend because they have been in it too long and are not in a position to start over. My point has always been that Obama chose to join his church. The Romneys didn't choose theirs. They did make a choice to remain in the church, but by many accounts Romney today isn't that active of a member as he once was. If we want to discuss silly things like "magic underwear" in this political season, then Reverend Wright and everything he said is fair game. I wouldn't even bring up Rev. Wright if it weren't for the chatter on the other side about Mormons. If we can have a president who attended Wright's church, then we certainly can have one who's a Mormon. Both have racially charged pasts. However, the Mormons have changed thier viewpoint on race over time. Trinity United has not. That is the deciding factor for me.

That certainly would indicate that the man is against abortion for religious reasons. Just like you'd have to conclude that anyone who attended Trinity United like Obama did for those many years must be pretty open to the theory that the US government created AIDS in laboratories to kill blacks. This bread can be buttered on both sides.

Suspending a campaign means it's over. They use the word "suspend" so that they can continue to fundraise to retire their campaign debt. No one ever "terminates" their campaign. By law it would mean that they would have to close up shop and settle all debts right then and there.
I keep on hearing all these snide remarks about "magic underwear". If this is the best they have against Romney, then Obama is really in trouble.

So when people make fun of Mitt Romney being a Mormon, that makes them religiously intolerant? The topic here was Reverend Wright and his church. Obama went to this church for 20 years, got married inside it, had both girls baptized in it. The left does it time and time again with the faith of Republican candidates, but when someone mentions Wright, all of a sudden it's racism. The fact is that there is a knee-jerk reaction among the president's defenders that race always has something to do with opposition to him. If you want to talk policy, then let's do that. But two can always play at this game. I've heard more talk on this forum about Mitt Romney's Mormonism than Wright. Now that there's a thread about Wright, you guys just can't take it and it's racism.

How charming, Steve. Not only are you "light years ahead of the undercurrent of hatred of blacks that seeps through conservative whites' skin", but "Racism rules supreme in Obama's USA". Geez, if we can only be so much like you! Show us the way, Obi-Wan! We are so hopelessly lost that the Klan is already mounted on horseback and ready to do some damage. Or maybe, just maybe, it's Obama's policies that are the main reason for the reaction on the right. It's always been a knee-jerk reaction among the left here (and evidently elsewhere) to equate criticism of Obama to unfettered racism. It's an argument which is getting really old. How many persons of Maori descent have made it to the office of Prime Minister in NZ? Once you have one, let us know. Otherwise, be careful of that glass house you have down south.

Well, one huge difference would be that Mitt Romney was born into his church, whereas Obama chose his and called it the "best the black church had to offer".

I wonder what context it was in when the good Reverend told us the US government created AIDS in laboratories to kill blacks? And what exactly did Oral Roberts say? Which president attended his church? I didn't get that.
